Cornell Cooperative Master Gardeners Julia Schuette and Janice Novet will facilitate. We will also discuss the goals of our Pleasant Valley Seed Library and how we can share our seeds.

What is all this talk about Heat Pumps? Want to learn more?
Richard Mattocks, Cornell Climate Steward and Hyde Park Climate Smart Communities Task Force coordinator, will give a simple explanation of this energy-efficient technology that's an alternative to furnaces and air conditioners for homes and businesses in all climates. As a retired Virginia Tech Environmental Scientist, he'll discuss how heat pumps are a cost-effective and climate-friendly solution for extreme heat waves and cold winters. He'll answer questions and recommend sources that provide all aspects of a positive heat pump experience.

REPAIR CAFE
The Repair Café is back after an early summer hiatus and this is going to be a special one. Vince will be sharpening those mower blades and other garden tools and Milo is going to give a demonstration on sharpening your knives at home. And as always our fixers will be there to fix those treasurers and the Café will of course be serving special treats for you. This is one not to be missed. Hope to see you there!

We are back from our break and ready to repair your items. Come to Town Hall RT 44 Pleasant Valley on Saturday August 5th from 10AM to 2PM and join us.
Cooling Centers
Pleasant Valley offers relief from the heat and poor air quality. The Town Hall and Library, both on Main St. offfers a place to go for our residents to cool down, breathe better and don’t forget warm up in the winter. So if you are feeling the effects of Climate Change and need a moment to reset be sure to stop into the Library or Town Hall.
TOWN CLEAN UP & GREEN FAIR @ TOWN HALL
Join your neighbors in cleaning up trash along the roads and stop by the Green Fair with your papers to be shredded and used furniture. Learn about electric vehicles, composting, plastic alternatives, beekeeping and so much more. There will also be food trucks to nourish your body. More details to come….

Brought to you by the Dutchess County Department of Emergency Response and Pleasant Valley Town Clerk Mary Beth Muir, acquire the tools to better prepare for any disaster, learn how to respond accordingly in a disaster and recover as quickly as possible to pre-disaster conditions and receive a free Citizen’s Preparedness Corps Response Starter Kit.
COMMUNITY SEED BANK & MORE @THE LIBRARY
Please join us for a special event on Thursday, November 3rd at 6pm. We will be presenting and discussing the following topics:
a community seed bank: how and where to collect the native seeds, and how you can help
planting now for pollinators: PVCS will have seeds for planting now for those plants that need "cold stratification" (ie: milkweed) specifically in order for them to sprout in the spring, and will discuss other ways to ensure your seeds will be successful
starting a community garden: Why (food pantry, community); Where (location); How (cost); Who would work (volunteers, hired help); Who would benefit, and more
Anyone interested in any of these topics is encouraged to join the discussion! Attendees are also asked to bring small containers with them, so that they may bring home seeds.

Join us on Tuesday, November 1st at 6pm for a screening of 'Food, Inc.' This 2008 documentary examines corporate farming in America, and how the practices of producing cheap, inadequately safety-tested, increasing genetically-modified food and transportation that uses large amounts of petroleum products harm and exploit animals, employees, farmers, consumers and the environment. And it shows how eating locally-grown food, reading labels and the rapid growth of organic farming are providing hope for the future.

LEARN ABOUT ELECTRIC VEHICLES @THE LIBRARY
For Sustainable Hudson Valley's Climate Solutions Week on Saturday, September 24th at 11am we present an enlightening introduction to Electric Vehicles, also known as EVs. We welcome Steve Wehr, a retired engineer and EV enthusiast. He'll discuss how electric vehicles work, charge, and fit into your life. Steve has written articles on electric vehicles and charging for Sustainable Hudson Valley, and has owned an electric car for 3 years. Bring your EV questions and he'll give you answers. Afterwards, join Steve, representatives from Friendly Auto Group, and other EV owners for a great EV show and tell in our back parking lot!

We are excited to welcome Maziar Dalaeli, co-founder of IPPsolar, on Monday, September 19th for Sustainable Hudson Valley's Climate Solutions Week. Maziar will discuss the benefits of Community Solar projects - they can provide 100% renewable energy, eliminate the use of fossil fuels, reduce greenhouse gasses, and save money on energy bills. Learn more about clean energy communities, and how they are a solution to our climate crisis.
